Awakening

Stantz | Official Music Video

With "AWAKENING" we wanted to talk about the concept of opening yourself: to the world, to others and also to new ideas, new experiences.

As a metaphor, we thought about the everyday cicle of a flower: opening itself to the sun as it raises, following it as it glides through the sky and then closing its petals once the night arrives.

The ethereal sound of this incredible piece by Stantz suggested a slow pacing for the video, that's why we decided to use Real Life Stop Motion - also called Pixilation - having a frame rate of around 5 to 10 frames per second, in order to make the images flow at the same time as the song.

With the help of our good friend Magali Lapouge we were able to add a new layer, bodypainting, which allowed us to experiment further in the possibilities at hand while shooting this music video.

As usual, almost no budget was used for this film.

We painted in pitch black a wall from my 12x9 square feet room and we used a homemade light attached to a dimmer hanging from the ceiling.
Back then we had a Nikon D90, a small photography tripod and a 50mm lens...
We were all set.

We shot for a whole afternoon, taking more than 5.000 pictures in the process.

3.500 of those pictures were used in the making of this video.

As usual, editing took a bit longer: more than 3 days, 14 hours a day.

For the effects used during editing, well, we only have two of them, probably the most famous one, Double Exposure and Mirror, stack on top of each other in several layers.

We hope you like it.
